The US has its own tendencies and strategies, while China has its own tendencies and strategies. If we can distinguish between them, we can understand why they do what they do and what they are likely to do in the future. and "What are they likely to do in the future? If we can identify these trends and strategies, we can formulate highly valid hypotheses about why they do what they do and what they are likely to do in the future. This is what I try to do in this book.
How the US and China behave will determine the future of the world. What we Japanese can do is limited. We Japanese cannot directly influence their global strategies by diplomatically approaching both countries. Japan has no global strategy of its own, so there is no way we can do that. What we can do is to stand between the two countries, somehow maintain a channel of dialogue as a diplomatic bridge and reconcile the interests of the two countries. If we can do that, we will be fine.
For now, all we can do is observe and predict. By carefully observing the governing principles of these two superpowers and their basic tendencies, rather than short-term politics, we can discuss the direction the world will take in the future and what kind of turning points await us in the future.
